About Cups

The LBBA regularly runs two cup competitions, the Handicap Competition and the Champions of Champions Cup. In addition occasionally the LBBA or others run basketball competitions in lincolnshire, details of which can be found here.

Handicap Competition

The handicap competition is a knock out competition usually starting in January and running until April / May. Each team is awarded a handicap based on their performance in the league (providing the team has played 5 games, teams failing to meet this requirement will recieve no handicap), if the team isn't playing in the league then the committee will decide upon a handicap for them. The handicap is the score automatically added to a team at the start of the game.

The first round consists of all the teams being randomly drawn against each other. After the first round the competition splits into two, the winners of the first round go into the Handicap Cup and the losers go into the Handicap Plate. From then on it is a normal knockout competition. A team keeps the same handicap throughout the competition. The finals are played at neutral venues.

An example:
Team A has a handicap of 40, Team B has a handicap of 65. The game would start Team A 40 - Team B 65. There after normal scoring applies.

Champions of Champions Cup

The champions of champions cup is a play-off competition played at the end of the season. There are three rounds, quarter final, semi-final and final. The winners being crowned association champions. The 8 teams entering the competition are seeded by their league position at the time of the draw (this is at the end of the season but any outstanding fixtures are not included). The selection of the teams varies depending on the number of teams and divisions in the league. In the current format the top 4 teams from Division 1 are seeded 1 to 4 and the top 4 teams from division 2 are seeded 5 to 8. The fixtures are then as follows:

Quarter Final
Seed 1 v Seed 8
Seed 2 v Seed 7
Seed 3 v Seed 6
Seed 4 v Seed 5

Semi Final
Seed 1/8 v Seed 4/5
Seed 2/7 v Seed 3/6

Final
Seed 1/8/4/5 v Seed 2/7/3/6

Again the final is held at a neutral venue.
